Texas Woman Arrested in Connection with Ricin Letters
Federal agents have arrested a 35-year-old Texas woman for allegedly sending letters laced with the poisonous substance ricin to President Barack Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and an aide to the mayor working on gun control, officials said Friday.
The case marks the second time in two months that a person allegedly sent a ricin-laced letter to the president and tried to make it appear that someone else had done it, according to authorities. The suspect in the current case, Shannon Richardson, initially contacted authorities to say she thought her husband might have sent the letters, according to law-enforcement officials.
Authorities say Ms. Richardson, also known as Shannon Guess and Shannon Rogers, was arrested based on a criminal complaint accusing her of mailing a threatening letter.
She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. It wasn't immediately clear if she had retained a lawyer.
