Randi Rhodes @RandiRadio blog: Party Over Country

Yesterday Senate Republicans managed to kill a bill to provide jobs for veterans. It sounds like Senate Republicans don’t need those lazy 47 Percenters any more than Mitt Romney does. It’s nice to know that even in the middle of an election, GOP Senators are able to get their work done. Unfortunately, their work is making sure that the Senate doesn’t get any work done. Sen. Tom Coburn led the opposition, saying that we are $16 trillion in debt, and this bill will “make the problem worse.” Gee Tom, you didn’t have any problem spending the money that sent these vets to Iraq in the first place.

Mitt Romney has a plan to rescue his floundering campaign. If it’s anything like his plans for everything else, it will just consist of cutting taxes on the rich and doing away with regulations. Mitt’s plan for salvaging his campaign is to focus on Mitt. Uh, Mitt’s campaign has had a lot of problems—but one of them has never been a lack of Mitt. Mitt, I don’t know how closely you’re paying attention, but the thing that got you into this mess... is Mitt! A Romney campaign advisor said “there’s a desire among the electorate to know more about Mitt.” Yeah, so they can protect themselves from him! A “desire to know more about Mitt” isn’t a good thing for Mitt. There’s also a desire to know more about the path of a hurricane. That doesn’t mean people want the hurricane to hit.

The Republican retreat from Mitt Romney is turning into a rout. Even Connecticut Senate candidate Linda McMahon is distancing herself from Mitt. And this is a woman who is intimately associated with professional wrestling! Linda McMahon has no problem being associated with people who wear masks and spandex costumes and hit each other over the head with folding chairs. But she draws the line when it comes to being associated with Mitt Romney.

Mitt is trying to distract from his problems with a crusade against “redistribution.” It isn’t a question of whether or not we will have redistribution. It’s a question of whether the money will flow to a handful of billionaires, or to everybody. Think of the economy like the human body. For the body to be healthy, blood has to flow to every part of the body. If money only flows to rich people, it would be like if blood wasn’t getting to the whole body, but just to the ass.

Listen to me Monday through Friday 6 PM to 8 PM on WWRL 1600.
