At President Obama’s appearance in Arizona this week, anti-Obama protesters sang
“Bye Bye Blackbird.” For the record, that song is from the year 1926. So that would be a logical choice for the anti-Obama nuts, given their average age. Another protestor waved a sign that said “Impeach the Half-White Muslim!” I wonder if that person’s big problem with Obama is that he’s half-white. They must have really hated George Bush—he was all white. “Impeach the Half-White Muslim!” I’m shocked that an Obama opponent would make such a sign—there are so many chances of a misspelling. One protestor yelled “He’s 47 percent Negro!” And you know that when that guy came up with that one, it was the proudest and most creative moment of his life.
Senator Tom Harkin says that in a closed-door meeting, one of his fellow Senators referred to President Obama
as “exotic.” The Senator—whom Harkin will not name—was from the South. Obama is exotic? I thought they were familiar with black people in the South. “Exotic” means “foreign, different, or strange.” How is a black man “strange” to someone from the South? Why, he’s just like the servants or those guys you see working along the highway on the chain gang! Maybe the part about Obama that’s “foreign, different, or strange” to folks from the South is that Obama is in a position of power. Now that’s downright weird! Harkin quotes the unnamed Senator saying “to my people down here, Obama seems like” – he thought for a second and said – “like he’s exotic.” It makes you wonder what terms he rejected in that second of thought. I have a feeling we might have seen them on signs in Arizona.
Glenn Beck attacked Oprah for having the temerity to compare the murders of Trayvon Martin and Emmitt Till. Beck says
“It’s offensive, and I would go so far as to call it evil to compare these events.” Glenn, you just described Oprah Winfrey as “evil.” Maybe it’s time to erase the chalkboard and start over. If there is a world where Glenn Beck is the voice of African Americans, and Oprah is evil, then I assume that in that world Sean Hannity is the grand champion on Jeopardy.
According to Glenn Beck “It diminishes what African Americans went through.” Uh, what they WENT through, Glenn? The whole point of Trayvon’s murder is that they are STILL going through it! That’s why Glenn is so offended by what Oprah said—it was an insult to the suffering that black people endured back when there was racism!
Here in New York City, the Bloomberg administration has agreed to expunge the names
of all of the people who have been stopped in the controversial “stop-and-frisk” program. Hey, no problem there! That’ll just make it harder for them to sue the city.
