#RandiRhodes @RandiRadio blog: Tea-Bagger BS

At a hearing on an assault weapons ban, freshman Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) tried to get snotty with 20-year veteran of the Senate Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). Who is Ted Cruz to lecture Diane Feinstein about anything, let alone gun violence? When she was on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1978, Dianne Feinstein was the person who found the bullet-riddled body of Supervisor Harvey Milk when he and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated. For the record, at that time Mr. Ted Cruz was 8 years old.

Maybe Ted Cruz’s tone was intentionally arrogant to distract attention from the pathetic weakness of his argument. Cruz claimed that saying assault weapons are not protected by the Second Amendment would be like saying certain books are not protected by the First Amendment. Sorry to tell you, Ted, but that is the case. Check out Barnes & Noble—there is no “Child Pornography” section. None of our freedoms are absolute—or they would cease being freedoms.

Catching all of the crazy sound bites coming out of CPAC is like trying to herd cats... if cats said crazy, racist things. CPAC is like Burning Man for racist reactionaries. Of course, if CPAC burned anything as part of their festival, it would be a cross.

At CPAC, Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said that we could have won the Vietnam War, if we only tried hard enough. Louie said “Vietnam was winnable but people in Washington decided we would not win it.” Louis, the problem was that the people in Hanoi decided we would not win it. The good thing that came out of Vietnam is that we learned some valuable lessons. And by “we” I mean everybody except George Bush, Dick Cheney, and all the neo-cons who pushed us into the Iraq war.

Grover Norquist said that Republicans who vote for tax increases are “rat heads in the Coke bottle.” I just know this—if I had my choice between living under Republican policies, or drinking a Coke with a rat head in it, I would say bring the bottle of Coke... and a bottle of Listerine.

Freshman GOP Congressman Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) has announced that the Supreme Court does not determine what is Constitutional. Jim, I don’t even like this Supreme Court, but I’ll admit that it rules on what is Constitutional. They don’t hear all of these cases just so Antonin Scalia can make racist statements.
